Maeve Mackinnon - Gaelic Singer in Scotland![]() A finalist in the prestigious BBC Radio Scotland's Young Traditional Musician 2005 competition, Maeve Mackinnon is one of Scotland's foremost young Gaelic and Scots singers. Maeve has toured Denmark and Germany as well as appearing at various venues in London and the Highlands, and she was honoured to guest with Mairi MacInnes, the well-known Gaelic singer from South Uist, during her "Concert by Candlelight" at Celtic Connections 2003. Also in 2003 she was the opening act for an International delegation for the Cuban Solidarity Campaign and she has sung at three peace rallies in Glasgow and Edinburgh to crowds of up to 15,000 people. She has performed as a solo artist in the Young Gaels concert at Celtic Connections and on BBC Radio Scotland's popular Scottish country dance-band show, Take The Floor. Between March and April 2004, Maeve filmed for the Gaelic music series, Beolach, a documentary-style showcase of young musical talent for BBC Television. Growing up in the city, Maeve's influences have not been confined to traditional Scottish music. Rock, Latin, bluegrass and Irish elements have all helped to shape her musical tastes. Maeve believes in drawing from the Gaelic, Scots and Irish song traditions without segregating. She aims to combine ancient traditional songs with cutting edge arrangements, in the hope of bringing traditional music into the 21st Century as strong as ever. With her wonderful voice and beautiful musical arrangements, we think she has suceeded admirably and has helped to bring traditional Gaelic to a much wider and younger audience. Maeve can perform solo or as a duo or as a trio with a guitarist and bodhran player, for weddings, corporate events, parties, folk clubs and festivals. Some Testimonials "Whether singing unaccompanied or in various group arrangements, Maeve's
outstanding performance left the crowd cheering for more." "Top Marks to Maeve Mackinnon. This was my first time hearing Mackinnon
live. I was hugely impressed by the quality of her vocals and the energy
she radiates onstage." Here are some samples of her work. Just double-click on the link and it should start playing in Windows Media Player within ten seconds. Just double-click on the link and Windows Media Player (or whatever music player you have installed on your PC) should run and start playing the music file within a few seconds. Make sure you have your speakers plugged in and switched on. If you have a Broadband internet connection (which is very fast), then the music files should play very smoothly straight away. However, if you have a standard "Dialup" connection (your modem dials up to allow you to make the connection to the internet) then you will find the music file stops and starts all the time. This is because your PC music player is trying to stream or play the music as it downloads to your hard drive but your internet connection isn't fast enough to play the music smoothly. If that is what is happening to you, then all you have to do is let the music stagger through once (it is downloading as this is happening) and then it will play at full speed after that. You can then listen to the the music file as many times as you want.
Alternatively, you can download the mp3 first and play it from your Hard Drive. To do this, just right-click on the mp3 link and select "Save target as" from the drop-down menu. You can then save the mp3 file to your Desktop or any other folder of your choice. When the mp3 file is completely downloaded, double-click on it and it will play immediately on Windows Media player or whatever music player you have installed. We hope that has helped you. If not, just give us a ring on 0141 577 6604 and we'll talk you through it. We're here to help you in any way we can. Back to Singers in Scotland Back to Main Page | |||||
